Behind the four factory Audis, Neel, Nico and Nick placed their Rebellion #12 in the 6h of Spa P5 which made them the leading privateer and petrol-powered team. P6 for the second Rebellion car completed a great team result.

During the free practice and qualifying sessions ahead of the Spa race it had become apparent that Nick’s Rebellion Racing Team with its new B12/60 Lola-Toyota might be capable of leading the WEC privateer scoring list. In the course of the race then Nick, Nico and Neel were able to hold on to fifth place and thus managed to finish as best privateer team and best petrol-powered car behind the four factory Audis.

This truly great result complemented by the second Rebellion Toyota racing into sixth place, under changing conditions and partly in tough wheel-to-wheel duels with other protagonists was secured by Nick against Dany Watts, Neel Jani against Sebastien Bourdais, and Nicolas Prost against Johnny Kane. A well developed racing strategy and speedy pit-stops had their part in making the team take the lead in the WEC LMP1 privateer team ranking.

Accordingly, Nick showed himself to be quite happy with this result: “It was a very good race ! We had fun and nice fights. During my stint, I was touched by a GT and I spun, but luckily didn’t lose too much time”, the former-formula-one pilot explained and at the same time he accounted for the considerable damage to be noticed at his high-performance racing car. He self-critically added: “The management of the traffic is one of the peculiarities of the discipline of endurance I have to learn and improve. I have been lucky this time not to badly damage the car. The Michelin tyres were consistent in tricky conditions and allowed us to make very long stints. The car is nice to drive. This is very important for us to have this strong result because it confirms the high level of improvement we have obtained with the new aero kit from Lola. We'll be more confident preparing for the next race... which is Le Mans 24 !”

During Sunday and Monday the Rebellion car will undergo a few further test drives on Spa course which will be followed by the team’s final preparations for the legendary 24h of Le Mans.

All Spa results and the WEC scoring table you will of course be able to find on the official WEC web page,
