With over 9,000 entries received, Nick did not have an easy job choosing the ten prize-winning helmet designs. In fact, he didn't quite succeed. "It was extremely difficult to limit the finalists to ten, so in the end, I made it eleven,” said Nick, explaining his decision. You can see the helmets that Nick liked best at the top of this page and also in a special gallery.
Nick was thrilled by the quantity and quality of entries that came in: "I had tremendous fun looking at all the design ideas and I'm delighted with the enthusiasm this competition has generated. Over 9,000 designs from all over the world; I certainly never expected that level of interest. Amongst them are some truly wonderful motifs and ideas. It's quite sensational how creative you managed to be with the online CAD tool we provided. So I'd like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who participated. Unfortunately, we can't all be winners and it proved quite difficult for me to pick out my final eleven.”
One of the eleven finalists will be chosen as the outright winner, and their entry will be used by Nick's personal designer Jens Munser and his supplier Schuberth to make the helmet that Nick will wear during the weekend of the 2009 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Which of the eleven helmets shown here has won the competition? You can find out at www.nickheidfeld.com on Thursday. The winner will be invited to the paddock at the Nürburgring where they will present the helmet to Nick in person.
The other ten helmet designs on the shortlist will each qualify for the prize of a rucksack plus an original baseball cap bearing Nick's signature. Nick will be signing these at the Nürburgring, so if you are a winner, we would ask you to be patient. You will also be informed by e-mail about the final result.
