1,16 miles (1,86 km) in 41,6 seconds with a average speed of 141 mph- this is the track record at the legendary hill climb within the framework of the Festival of Speed in Goodwood. The record is kept by none other than Nick Heidfeld, set in 1999 in a McLaren-Mercedes MP4/13. Probably it’s an eternal record because, since 2001, after many serious accidents in the millenniums’ year, races against the time are not officially permitted anymore by reasons of safety.

Eleven years after his record race Nick will return to Goodwood at the 4th of July and once again he will sit in a Mercedes-F1. Presenting the MercedesGP team, together with his team colleague Nico Rosberg, he will be guest in the county West-Sussex, one week before the British Grand Prix, to race his car over the hilly and wavy track. Perhaps he will charge his own course record then, even if it will be unofficial.

Besides the two Germans you’ll get to see also a lot of further stars and legends of motorsports: both active British F1 world champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, but also “pensioners” like Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mika Häkkinen, Stirling Moss, Jochen Maas and Partrick Tambey will participate at the festival. Especially Bruno Senna will be honored- the HRT-pilot will drive the Mclaren-Honda MP4/8 in which in 1993 his uncle Ayrton won the 6th time in Monaco.

Apart from the drivers, naturally there will be exposed also race cars of many decades of motorsport history. The Moving Motor Show will enable manufacturers to showcase their latest products in action.

The Festival of Speed will take place from the 2nd to 4th of July in Goodwood, Great Britain. Extensive information as well as the complete starting list you can find on the official website of Goodwood.
